Businesses and residents have also helped develop strategies to enhance the sustainability and vitality of businesses and residential areas along city Road. When complete, the city roads will greatly improve Rwanda’s mobility from the city to other parts of the country especially those with genocide memorials. Besides, new and wider sidewalks, more signalized crosswalks, improved bicycle lanes, and enhanced landscaping will greatly improve both the pedestrian and bicyclist use and the appearance of city Roads. A median and managed access to businesses will improve safety, and new local access lanes will provide a safer and easier way to get to and from residences and businesses in congested areas plus tourism Destinations. Due to the implementation of the road improvement plan, several city roads were blocked for a while owing to the on going constructions around the city. Thus, Kigali city effectively blocked some of the main roads leading into the city centre as a measure of giving way to the ongoing construction. Among the roads to be blocked is SOPETRAD which is to be expanded by seven meters and is expected to be complete within two months. The road will only be open to traffic entering the city centre while all those heading out will be using access roads in Kiyovu. Likewise to be closed is Kacyiru road which stretches from the US-Embassy to Kinamba where vehicles and pedestrians will be using Gisozi, UTEXRWA –Nyarutarama roads depending on where they are going and a stone paved road which connects to Kacyiru roundabout. Within 74 days, the renovations to the road that stretches up to Yamaha House in Muhima which began mid last month, will be complete. To ensure stability of Rwanda travellers, Aimable Gasana Ndakengerwa, city Director General said that the construction of other 103.8 kilometre stretch will commence in July. Alternatively by June next year, over 145 kilometres of tarmac roads in several parts of the city will be complete. However, action should be taken by each state to formulate a Road development and renovation year Plan in the light of recommendation of the Vision document like Rwanda.
